12/7 Assignment
I always figured that there was some type of misconception about nursing, regarding the nursing profession. I assumed that sometimes nursing could get rather boring and tedious due to the repetitive nature of the job. In my experience as shadowing nurses for the past four months, I can say that I was right in the fact that the job is rather tedious and it can become boring because most of the time you are doing the same thing over and over again. There are also many skills needed to be in this field; the most important skill needed in the nursing profession, I believe is the ability to cope well under high stress and to having a caring personality. By having these skills, it helps one to succeed well in the field of nursing.

11/30 Assignment My Essential Question...
My essential question is:
Why do people want to become nurses, why do I want to become a nurse and what is the passion behind nursing?
I selected this as my essential question because it gets to the core of what I want to know and what I want to learn about. I most excited to learn about other people's feelings on nursing and the reason that they joined the profession and how they got involved. I feel like this question does accurately portray what I really want to find out about nursing and I like that I could involve other people and see what their opinions are.

11/16 Assignment
In this week's assignment I was asked to read an article from this link, http://growingleaders.com/blog/first-soft-skill-develop-students/ ,and write a reflection on the said article. From this article, I learned that many youths are too loud, too forward and often at times too self- absorbed. Youths lack the social intelligence needed in many jobs, meaning the ability to navigate between social and work relationships is non-existent in most cases. Social Intelligence is so important because it plays such a large role in not only aspects of many's physical health, but also in a person's personal and emotional state of being. The ability to connect with other's is so important in being able to form and create relationships with co-workers, family members and friends. I found this article to being very interesting and insightful and I agree with the aspect that it is so vastly important to have social intelligence because many people rely on this trait to navigate through the world.

11/9 Assignment
My mentorship has definitley been fun and realistic. The mentorship itself shows an inside glimpse into what a job in the nursing field is really like. I normally shadow a nurse around and this means that I watch and sometimes help a nurse take a patients vitals and assist the nurse in any way that I can. I enjoy hearing the different scenarios that the pateint's have and I like how every day there are new experiences and opportunuity's.
One class that I have had during high school that has helped me in my mentorship has had to be Comparative Religions. This class taught me how to be more open-minded and more respectful towards those with differing views than me. In this way, I have learned to respect the patients more and see the side that they come from on. It has also taught me to be more compassionate towards others.

11/2 Assignment
My internship is a "partner in my education" because thus far I have learned a lot of different things in my preferred field of work. I have learned things that I might not have known if I had not had the opportunity to mentor at my internship site. I have learned that there are so many other careers that I never knew about in my field of study and I find it fascinating that there are so many branches to nursing. There are nurses who can rotate shifts and certain nurses who only see patients in a certain age limit and I like that there are different avenues you can take in nursing because this allows someone to have so many different options. My goal at the beginning of my internship was to make my experience as enjoyable as possible and to really focus and learn what all I could. I feel that I have met this goal, because I have learned so many different things.

10/26 Assignment
My Profile: I am a senior at Flowery Branch High School, and I plan to attend college and go into the field of pediatric nursing. I chose the nursing profession to mentor with because I feel that it will give me a good indication of whether or not it is something that is a viable option for me as a job.
My Mentorship: I mentor at an Immediate Care Clinic in Oakwood. I want to go into nursing because I really feel the call to help others and because nursing offers all of the benefits that I would want in a job. My mentor's name is Amy and in this mentorship, I am able to shadow nurses and their daily routines as well as help re-shelve and restock medical supplies.
My Future: I plan on pursuing a bachelor's degree in Biology and hopefully attending my dream school, University of South Carolina, in fall of 2016. This mentorship will allow me to write down that I have previous experience in the field in which I am hoping to go into on college applications and it makes it easier me to be seen as good candidate for very competitive programs because I already have previous knowledge and experience.

10/19 Assisgnment
Since starting my internship my perception of being a nurse has changed significantly. I have learned about all of the behind the scenes of being a nurse and learned that its not all its has been cracked out to be. There are sometimes long and tiring shifts that nurses take and tough patients that they often at times have to deal with. The most surprising thing I have learned from my internship is that, a lot of times, is that most of the nurses on staff become very close with the patients and in turn sometimes this makes the job harder because its harder to be objective and keep on task with certain things.
I have also learned that there are many boring parts to being a nurse and most of being a nurse is routine, such as taking a patients vitals. I have noticed however, that in emergency situations things are very high paced. I enjoy when we have interesting patients with different situations other than the norm, which is like the flu or a cold. All in all, I really like my internship because it offers the different extremes of being a nurse.

10/5 Assignment
For an assignment, I was asked to reflect on an article that I had read and write how this article would help enable me to write a paper. The article that I read described moral values in the field of nursing and how nurses must abide by certain moral behaviors. I could use this article to help explain the Code of Ethics in nursing and the article would also help me delve further into examining the philosophical and ethical values needed to go into a field such as nursing. I found this source very helpful and I would definitely use this source for any future projects pertaining to nursing. The overall article had a lot of useful quotes from doctors and notable nurses from the public health organization group, Nursing Ethics.
I could also use this article to talk about how nursing has changed throughout the years and how the morals that nurses had back in the day has drastically differed from those that nurses have in today’s modern society. The article also touched on the contrasting viewpoints of how to practice medicine, as far as technique goes, from the 18th century to nowadays. The main difference in the viewpoints comes from the different moral and ethical standings that people had in the varying time periods. I liked reading this article and found it to be extremely helpful for brainstorming ideas that I could include in a paper.

For my assignment on Monday, I was asked to reflect on my "next step" after high school. I know that I want to go to college, the confusing question is where I want to go. I would like to major in Biology simply because this major offers a wide variety of avenues that I could take. There are 3 colleges that I would apply for with the degree program I need to enter the field in which I would like to enter. These colleges include:

3. Good Pass rates
Wake Forest University, The University of South Carolina, and Western Carolina University all meet the criteria for a good places to learn and grow.

9/8 Assignment
I have a lot of things going on at the previous moment, between college appointments, college applications, high school coursework, and my job. Trying to juggle all of this is a lot of work, but with time management skills it makes being able to stay afloat in all of my responsibilities a lot easier. By marking out time during my day for certain activities, I am able to stay on target and not forget about deadlines and missing appointments. In the career field I want to go in (nursing), time management skills are so valuable in order to ensure that not only the patients, but also oneself is on track and organized. I believe that my time management skills will also guide me during my mentor ship; I will be able to keep myself organized and focused on important subjects.

Blog 9/6
In an article from the blog, Growing Leaders, which can be found with this link: http://growingleaders.com/, the author Tim Elmore discusses the idea that if one made an internship a "twelve-week interview" then more interns would be able to learn more and understand more and gain more from the internship. If my mentor ship was in theory like a "twelve-week interview" then I would probably be more involved in my internship because I would want to make a good impression. I would also learn responsibility and take more of an initiative with my internship. I would be on my best behavior at all times in my mentorship and I also would be able to learn more by being so involved. I think the "twelve- week interview" would actually be very beneficial in an internship, because then the intern is able to step up their game and be a better leader.

Work Ethics 8/26
Having a work ethic includes having many different skills and skill sets. To have a work ethic means to be personally responsible for things and to hold oneself accountable for any actions made. Interpersonal skills allow others to work well in teams and to be able to communicate in an effective manner. Being dependable and taking an initiative are also valuable skills needed in order to have a strong work ethic.
The Work Ethics assignment that I had to complete was an electronic test like instrument that scored me on my initiative, interpersonal skills, and my dependability. Through the test, I learned that my dependability score is significantly high, which is good because one can never be to dependable. I also learned that there are specific things that I can improve on, which will help me later on down the road for my mentor ship.

Communication 8/21/15
I communicate with different people in very different manners. Each situation is different when you are communicating with someone because each person that you talk to is different from another person. There are multiple forms of communication as well. When I'm communicating with my friends sometimes I don't even need to verbally communicate, I can simply use hand gestures and non-verbally talk to my friends. With people that I can act casual around, I typically do not act in a professional manner but in a more relaxed and playful manner.
When I am in a professional setting however, I would want to communicate with another person in a professional manner, which includes speaking in a nice tone and by being careful with my pronunciation of words. Each person is expected to be professional, and courteous to others. A major thing that I want to work on for my upcoming mentorship is to listen carefully to by mentor and to ask questions and leave the channel for communication open. I hope that by becoming better at communicating with people I can broaden my horizons in the future and make my mentorship a fun learning experience.

Article Summary 8/19/15
The article, "Making the Most of Your Internship or Co-op," describes how to be successful in an internship and how to get the most out of an internship. Not only are most of the tips helpful for an internship but most of the tips also are useful for jobs and just basic life lessons. I would definitely want to use these tips in order to gain experience and to build upon my people meeting skills. The article was brief and to the point and there was a lot of information that it covered. I hope that by using the tips this article gave, I can be a great intern and make my internship fun and enjoyable!

JD Russo's Talk 8/10/15
JD Russo TED talk resonated in me because I wholeheartedly believe that people are indifferent about certain topics. People nowadays don't agree or disagree with controversial subjects, they just don't care. I feel like in my upcoming mentor ship, I will want to be passionate about my experience and not feel as if it is a whatever type of deal, but rather an opportunity and I will meet my experience with enthusiasm and spirit.
I would like to become a leader for change in this new world, in which we abolish the notion that to be indifferent about a topic is "cool" and that being passionate about something is seen as abnormal. I would like for everyone to feel that being passionate about something is worthwhile and that in order to create change you have to first be able to be excited about a topic and to pour yourself into creating something that is going to be magical. I want to ignite the fire in people and get them motivated.
