11/16 Assignment

In this week's assignment I was asked to read an article from this link, http://growingleaders.com/blog/first-soft-skill-develop-students/ ,and write a reflection on the said article. From this article, I learned that many youths are too loud, too forward and often at times too self- absorbed. Youths lack the social intelligence needed in many jobs, meaning the ability to navigate between social and work relationships is non-existent in most cases. Social Intelligence is so important because it plays such a large role in not only aspects of many's physical health, but also in a person's personal and emotional state of being. The ability to connect with other's is so important in being able to form and create relationships with co-workers, family members and friends. I found this article to being very interesting and insightful and I agree with the aspect that it is so vastly important to have social intelligence because many people rely on this trait to navigate through the world.

11/9 Assignment

My mentorship has definitley been fun and realistic. The mentorship itself shows an inside glimpse into what a job in the nursing field is really like. I normally shadow a nurse around and this means that I watch and sometimes help a nurse take a patients vitals and assist the nurse in any way that I can. I enjoy hearing the different scenarios that the pateint's have and I like how every day there are new experiences and opportunuity's.

One class that I have had during high school that has helped me in my mentorship has had to be Comparative Religions. This class taught me how to be more open-minded and more respectful towards those with differing views than me. In this way, I have learned to respect the patients more and see the side that they come from on. It has also taught me to be more compassionate towards others.

11/2 Assignment

My internship is a "partner in my education" because thus far I have learned a lot of different things in my preferred field of work. I have learned things that I might not have known if I had not had the opportunity to mentor at my internship site. I have learned that there are so many other careers that I never knew about in my field of study and I find it fascinating that there are so many branches to nursing. There are nurses who can rotate shifts and certain nurses who only see patients in a certain age limit and I like that there are different avenues you can take in nursing because this allows someone to have so many different options. My goal at the beginning of my internship was to make my experience as enjoyable as possible and to really focus and learn what all I could. I feel that I have met this goal, because I have learned so many different things.

10/26 Assignment

My Profile: I am a senior at Flowery Branch High School, and I plan to attend college and go into the field of pediatric nursing. I chose the nursing profession to mentor with because I feel that it will give me a good indication of whether or not it is something that is a viable option for me as a job.

My Mentorship: I mentor at an Immediate Care Clinic in Oakwood. I want to go into nursing because I really feel the call to help others and because nursing offers all of the benefits that I would want in a job. My mentor's name is Amy and in this mentorship, I am able to shadow nurses and their daily routines as well as help re-shelve and restock medical supplies.

My Future: I plan on pursuing a bachelor's degree in Biology and hopefully attending my dream school, University of South Carolina, in fall of 2016. This mentorship will allow me to write down that I have previous experience in the field in which I am hoping to go into on college applications and it makes it easier me to be seen as good candidate for very competitive programs because I already have previous knowledge and experience.
